The Steel City World Cup and Global Festival is a grand celebration of Pittsburgh’s vibrant and growing global community — a story that is shared through cultural expression and the Beautiful Game. In 2017, the event will host 32 teams representing countries from around the world in a round robin group stage on September 23-24. The top 16 teams from the group stage will qualify for the single elimination stage the following weekend which will include the Rounds of 16 and 8 on September 30 and culminate with the Semi-Finals, Championship, and Global Festival on October 1st.
The Steel City World Cup and Global Festival aims to:
Celebrate global culture, country, ethnicity, diversity and the beautiful game by hosting a fun and safe World Cup-style soccer tournament and global festival
Build relationships among individuals and organizations representing Pittsburgh’s vibrant and growing world community and long-time Pittsburghers
Facilitate cross-cultural understanding and connections that lead to opportunities and resources
A portion of the net proceeds from the main event will be donated to Pittsburgh Soccer in the Community (PSC) to continue global soccer opportunities throughout the year. PSC is a local nonprofit dedicated to creating positive social impact in and around Pittsburgh through the game of soccer.
