Diesel and Hydraulic Mechanic II

As a Diesel and Hydraulic Mechanic at Carnegie Robotics you will be working on our Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) contract. You will assist with new system builds, as well as maintenance, troubleshooting and testing of diesel, hybrid electric, and hydraulic vehicle systems. You will play a key part in the new APD system build which will entail electric hybrid, turbodiesel and high speed hydraulic suspension control. You will work closely with our Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing departments as we focus on developing state of the art solutions with DARPA.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation
  • Build, test, and perform maintenance on complex diesel, hybrid electric, and high pressure hydraulic vehicle systems
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues on heavy mobile equipment, armored fighting vehicles (AFVs), autonomous hybrid electric and hydraulic vehicle systems
  • Must be able to lift and carry items, unassisted, weighing up to 40 pounds, and often exert similar effort to push, pull, and position parts, assemblies, and equipment

  • Qualifications

  • 2+ years’ Heavy Mobile Equipment/Vehicle Mechanic maintenance experience.
  • 2+ years’ diesel engine repair
  • 2+ years’ automotive electrical experience
  • 2+ years’ experience with hydraulic pumps, cylinders, valves, and hoses.
  • ASE Certification as an Automobile Technician or equivalent relevant experience as a heavy equipment mechanic.
