Senior Veterans Service Officer
The Senior Veterans Service Officer reports to the Chief Veterans Affairs Officer. This position advises and assists military service veterans, and veteransí survivors and dependents in obtaining benefits provided by the county, federal, and state and serves as the representative of the Veterans Affairs Division. This position also assists in the oversight of all operations of this division.
Duties:Serves as a caring resource specialist dedicated to providing a comprehensive advocacy support center devoted to the veteran communityWorks with veterans and their families to ensure receipt of all appropriate benefitsPrepares and submits benefit claims and service applications on behalf of veterans and/or their family members to the appropriate agenciesProcesses and approves payments of the public funds for burial benefits of wartime veterans and their spouses and authorizes payments for foundation fees for federal grave makersMaintains effective working relationships with appropriate Allegheny County departments to support veterans in the areas of healthcare, employment, and veteran-owned development (i.e., John J. Kane Regional Centers, Human Services, minority, Women & Disadvantaged Business Enterprises, etc.)Interfaces with the Department of Administrative Servicesí Real Estate Division to guarantee that veterans official discharge papers (DD-214) are maintained in a manner which are certified and availableMaintains appropriate relationships with Federal, State, and County agencies to ensure that eligible veterans secure pension and other benefits in a timely mannerAttends training sessions throughout the state as scheduledInteracts with all veteran organizations within the County as neededRepresents the division at various community events as neededAssists Chief Veterans Affairs Officer in writing the Veterans Newsletter and social media postsPerforms other administrative veterans-related duties as assigned
