Sports Event Manager

SportsPITTSBURGH is recruiting for a professional and creative Event Manager. This position provides extensive event management, client relations and on-site event support. This is a full-time, exempt position and offers a competitive salary and outstanding benefit package.

SportsPITTSBURGH, a division of VisitPITTSBURGH, is responsible for attracting and hosting sports-related events, meetings and participants to the Greater Pittsburgh area. The Event Manager works closely with rights holders and event producers to assist with event marketing and production needs, including local awareness, event attendance and complementary value-add programming. The individual must effectively coordinate and closely collaborate with all VisitPITTSBURGH departments, to develop an annual event strategy for SportsPITTSBURGH hosted events and ancillary programs.


  • Track record of successful project management, showcasing initiative, creativity and professionalism
  • Must be able to independently manage complex projects and deliver agreed upon results within the allotted time-frame
  • Effectively communicate correct information using excellent interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy, and able to successfully resolve conflicts
  • Experience in negotiating and influencing diverse constituencies, including clients, internal staff, stakeholders, volunteers and supplier
  • Must be able to effectively establish and maintain good working relationships with event planners and local stake-holders
  • Able to successfully collaborate and work effectively within interdepartmental and cross functional teams
  • Understanding of destination marketing, specifically sports and event tourism
  • Must be able to frequently walk, sit and stand, occasionally for lengthy periods of time; safely climb using a step ladder; stoop, crouch, crawl and kneel; reach carefully for objects on a high shelf; lift and carry up to 25 lbs., and occasionally up to 50 pounds
