Celebrates and honors the legacy of African-American composers, singers, songwriters, and musicians to American culture, enriching American music and capturing the diversity of the nation. Originally started as Black Music Month by President Jimmy Carter in 1979, President Barack Obama has announced the observance under the new title for each year of his term.
