Urini Nal (Children’s Day)

May 5

A day to honor the children of South Korea. A national holiday since 1975, its roots began in 1919 when Chung Hwan Bang felt that children deserved a day of their own in return for the obedience and respect they were expected to give all through the year. Special activities are often planned, including excursion, plays and dances. Schools usually close.
