Title: Staff Accountant
FLSA: Exempt
Salary Range: $58K – $68K
Hours: Full-time
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Summary Objective:
The Staff Accountant will report to the CEO and will be responsible for recording, reconciling and reporting financial information to ensure organizational accuracy. The Staff Accountant will also assist in the development and monitoring of the annual budget, as well as the annual audit in cooperation with the fractional CFO. The incumbent must enjoy working with people, have a helpful attitude, be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment, and have the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
- The Staff Accountant will be responsible for:
- General accounting tasks
- Processing, disbursing and recording accounts payable
- Ensuring that restricted grants are properly recorded, monitored and reported
- Recording in-kind food donations and distributions
- Processing payroll for the organization’s employees
- Performing monthly bank statement and general ledger reconciliations
- Collaborating with the organization’s leadership to ensure that all entries are properly recorded
- Reviewing all credit card transactions to ensure that they are properly recorded
- Assisting with the development and monitoring of the annual budget
- Preparing monthly financial statements that will be presented to department heads, senior leadership and the board
- Billing of license partners for monthly license fees and up-front fees in accordance with terms of license documents
- Maintaining vendor W-9 files and 1099 tax status in accounting system
- Generating annual IRS form 1099/1096 filing
- Donation Recording and Monitoring Pledges
- Recording and monitoring pledges, donations, grants received, product sales contracts and revenue, and other accounts receivable
- Assisting with the preparation of grant budgets and reports when needed
- Other duties as assigned
- Work with development staff and CFO to review and improve financial processes
- Assist with the annual audit as required
- Assisting the CEO/CFO and other leadership with requests or initiatives as needed
- Complete monthly reconciliations with bank and development records.
- Maintaining and reviewing data in order to ensure that financial information is being properly recorded and monitored
- Maintaining an inventory of assets and recording depreciation

Qualifications and Experience – Required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related major
- Strong understanding of accounting principles to include preparing financial statements
- Microsoft Office product experience
- Familiarity with Google Suite products
- QuickBooks and/or MIP experience
- Minimum of 3 years of nonprofit accounting experience
- Understanding of grant accounting and restricted assets
- Knowledge of Paycor and/or payroll processing
Physical Demands:
- Working at a computer for extended periods
- Meet and communicate with team members both in-person and virtually
- Occasionally lifts items to 25 pounds
- Attend the headquarters office location at 3 days/week
Work Location
The position is classified as hybrid (minimum three days in office) with physical work location to encompass all of the following as directed by the supervisor: in-office, field and/or community, and work from home.
