POSITION SUMMARY
The National Community Development Association (NCDA) is a non-partisan national non-profit association comprised of more than 500 local governments across the country that administer federally-funded community development, affordable housing, and economic development programs through the U.S. The NCDA Annual Conference attracts over 325+ community development professionals from across the country, providing an economic boost to the host community’s local economy and providing the opportunity for the host community to showcase local projects and attractions.

Pittsburgh will host the 2026 NCDA summer conference from June 8-12.

Under general to limited supervision, the NCDA Conference Planning Intern assists the Office of Management and Budget, Community Development (OMB-CD) in meeting goals related to planning and hosting the conference.

Intern will have the opportunity to learn about public administration and the workings of City government.  Skills may include but are not limited to: fundraising, event coordination, research, note-taking and documentation, and maintaining shared databases.

Student applicants should note if a program has a requirement for a number of hours per week.  OMB may be able to accommodate if the budget allows.

Some tasks may be done remotely at the discretion of the appropriate Assistant Director.

Intern will ideally work during the Spring 2026 semester, with potential to extend through the conference dates.

For paid internships, applicants are required to present verification of City residency at time of filing the application and must remain a resident throughout internship. For unpaid internships, City residency is not required.
NOTE: For paid internships the City of Pittsburgh, as a matter of policy, conducts pre-employment and promotional background investigations on all candidates being considered for positions.  The background investigation includes but is not limited to criminal background, driver’s license and City of Pittsburgh real estate tax payments.  Candidates may be disqualified from consideration for employment based on the results of their background investigation (as it relates to the job for which the applicant is being considered).

QUALIFYING REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING: Must be currently enrolled and taking classes in an accredited college or university undergraduate or graduate program; OR have graduated within the last twelve (12) months.
EQUIVALENCY: None permitted for this position.

You must pass the written and/or performance examination(s) in order to have your name placed on the official Civil Service eligibility list for this position. POSITION DUTIES
Assists with researching venues, caterers, and entertainment.
Coordinates contact with various potential sponsors.
Maintains communication between planning subcommittees.
Attends regular planning meetings to collaborate, take notes, and provide updates.
Contributes to departmental goals by completing assigned tasks and projects within set timelines.
Attends internal and external meetings.
Provides general administrative support concurrently with assigned projects.
Other duties as assigned.
