Position Description
Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) provide direct care and personal support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a community setting They ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the people we support.
DSPs positively impact the people we support in a number of ways: taking people to medical appointments, participating in recreational activities, helping people with personal care, and supporting activities of daily living.
Job Responsibilities – Highlights
Performs personal hygiene tasks as needed (toileting, bathing, etc.)
Understands and support the rights of the individual and the achievement of personal outcomes. Serves as a model of appropriate language, dress, and behavior. Follows crisis procedures and contacts appropriate staff.
Communicates individual concerns and assists in the resolution of issues.
Follows procedures for managing individual funds. Successfully completes medication management training and administers medications as specified. Must obtain CPR certification within six months of the start date.

Qualifications
The equivalent of a High School Diploma is required. Ability to complete one person transfers is required. One year of related experience is preferred. Reliable transportation is essential. A valid driver’s license is required. Must meet Act 33 and 34 requirements and pass an FBI background check.
