Light of Life Ministries (LoL) is a non-denominational Christian non-profit organization that serves the poor and homeless of Greater Pittsburgh, many of whom have encountered addiction, abuse, and mental illness. Our mission is to transform lives through the love of Christ by providing food, shelter, and hope to men, women, and children experiencing homelessness, poverty, or addiction to restore them as healthy members of our community. Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, LoL serves all people, regardless of age, creed, ethnicity, or social background. We provide comprehensive services to those whose lives hang in the balance and represent one of the area’s primary resources for the homeless.
Light of Life’s philosophy of care is distinct. We focus not only on the presenting problem such as homelessness or addiction, but on the underlying issues that have resulted in these situations. We have a multifaceted continuum of care that starts with providing food and emergency shelter to meet immediate basic needs and then tailors programming based on client needs. For example, we can assist clients who do not have an addiction issue to find employment or housing. The driving philosophy behind our Recovery Program focuses on the numerous physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional factors that contribute to an individual’s poverty and homelessness. It combines housing with addiction recovery, education, career training, case management, counseling, spiritual enrichment, and other vital services.
