The Pittsburgh Human Resources Association (PHRA) is the largest human resources professional association in western Pennsylvania that provides best-in-class networking and professional development through conferences, webinar, training, SHRM certification preparation, SHRM & HRCI re-certification, and more.
As a SHRM-affiliated chapter, we partner with SHRM to provide our members with access to the most relevant resources and information that shape the HR profession.
Founded at the turn of the twentieth century, the PHRA began as a chapter of the National Association of Corporate Schools (NACS), which promoted vocational education in the industry. As the chapter expanded in scope, the name changed to the National Personnel Association in 1922. Continuing its transition, the name later changed again to the American Management Association. Subsequently, the Pittsburgh chapter broke away from the national group and formed the Pittsburgh Personnel Association, operating for many years under this name. In an effort to better reflect the advancement of the profession, the organization became known as the Pittsburgh Human Resources Association in 1998.
Governed by a Board of Directors with operations and strategy implementation managed by its staff, the PHRA equips the human resources professional to bring value to a company’s organizational strategy with the goal of growing a vibrant workforce that builds and maintains western Pennsylvania’s economic development.
