The Volunteer Program and Workforce Development Coordinator plays a lead role in the development and operations of the volunteer and internship programs, including the recruitment, selection, assignment, training, retention, appreciation, and evaluation of volunteers, interns, and other non-employee team members at CSC.
The Coordinator plays a supportive role with other Workforce Development programs including staff development and recognition initiatives, and supports the larger Service & Engagement Team, performing front-of-house and operational functions when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years’ experience working with volunteer programs or similar personnel management experience preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and time management.
Experience with computers and various software packages, including Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), and comfort learning new technologies required.
Experience in public contact or customer service position preferred.
A positive attitude and ability to work with a wide variety of people are required.
Ability to form collaborative working relationships with colleagues required.
Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality related to volunteer personnel records, volunteer performance, and disciplinary issues.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is primarily sedentary in nature; no special demands are required.
EMPLOYMENT TRAINING: Two months.
TIME COMMITMENT: Occasional evening and/or weekend hours required.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Collaborate with Director of Workforce Development and area supervisors to develop and implement the recruitment, selection, and assignment of adult and teen volunteers, interns, and other non-employees to ensure a program which satisfies the needs of the Science Center and the volunteers/interns.
Create and facilitate training to orient and familiarize volunteers/interns with the policies and activities of Carnegie Science Center.
Develop and present staff training on volunteer use and management to better match the skills of the volunteers with the needs of Carnegie Science Center.
Create and implement volunteer and internship program goals that meet the needs of Carnegie Science Center
Develop and maintain exemplary working relationships with volunteers, interns, and staff to ensure effective representation and use of volunteers/interns.
Assists the Director of Workforce Development and area supervisors in the oversight and management of volunteers, such as maintaining volunteer records, including confidential paperwork, and supporting and advising supervisors on proper disciplinary action procedures.
Represent Volunteer area at team and support staff meetings to ensure representation and team support.
Develop other projects as requested, i.e. special occasion get-togethers, and volunteer communications.
Engage in professional development activities to facilitate professional growth and enhance volunteer services.
Design and implement various evaluation methods, i.e. training evaluations, exit interview, annual performance reviews, and volunteer/intern surveys.
Responsible for recognition efforts, including the annual appreciation event, Outstanding Volunteer Service Award, hour and year service awards, and National Volunteer Week
Support and advocate for Carnegie Science Center’s mission, vision, activities, and policies.
Assist the Director of Workforce Development in monitoring program budgets to assure fiscal sustainability and overall budget management. Works within project budgets in a fiscally responsible manner to meet financial projections and timelines.
Assist the Service & Engagement Department by providing front-of-house support, as needed, over the course of the year during times of peak visitation (e.g., holidays, special events, group season, etc.).
Assist the Director of Workforce Development on internal team development initiatives as needed during key times, such as All-Team Meetings, CSC University, and staff recognition programs.
Perform other duties as required by your supervisor.
