POSITION SUMMARY
Performs signage and pavement marking installation and maintenance work on City streets for the purpose of traffic control; operates and maintains specialized equipment used in performing the task.

Department:  Mobility & Infrastructure

Posting Type: Announcement/Bid

Salary:  $27.68 per hour.

Union: This position is included in the Pittsburgh Joint Collective Bargaining Committee and will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Union Bid Form:    Not required.  Your application for this position will serve as your union Bid Form.

Civil Service Classification:  Non-Competitive

 

REQUIREMENTS
General Requirements:

You must submit or show proof of all of the following at the time of filing your application (unless otherwise indicated below), or your application will be disqualified.  Disqualifications based on any of these General Application Requirements are not subject to a Civil Service appeal.

Applicants must submit a complete application including education, work experience, a resume (if applicable) and completed supplemental questions.

A current, valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License is required prior to appointment and must be maintained throughout employment. Qualifying Requirements:

Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position.  You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.

WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show one (1) year of full-time experience, which includes each of the following:  street painting, pavement marking, and sign installation. (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
EDUCATION/TRAINING: None required.
EQUIVALENCY:  None permitted for this position.  Therefore, no education/training and/or work experience may be substituted toward the qualifying requirements listed above.

CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS
If you meet the qualifying requirements listed above, you will be sent a letter of admission (when applicable) for the following examination(s).  You must pass the written and/or performance examination(s) in order to have your name placed on the official Civil Service eligibility list for this position.  Candidates who receive job offers must pass a medical examination (when applicable) prior to start date.

POSITION DUTIES
Reads and understands work orders to ensure proper equipment and supplies are available and transported to each work site daily.
Evaluates work site daily upon arrival for traffic safety, cone placement (uses directional), and provides traffic control using proper flagging equipment throughout the duration of the job.
Performs a pre-trip and post-trip safety inspection of non CDL vehicles daily (tire pressure, windshield wipers, horn function, oil level, turn signals, brake lights, etc.)
Drives vehicle to and from job sites which may include driving the lift truck and safely working off of an elevated platform.
Installs crosswalks, longitudinal lines, curb paint, arrows and legends on City streets using specialized equipment (i.e. paint machine, line laser, pionjar, thermoplastic line striper, core drill, etc.).
Operates hand and motorized pavement marking applicator and hand power tools (e.g., drills, poinjars, rotary drills, installs pedestal base as needed etc.).
Erects, installs and repairs signs, channels, poles, flex posts.
Repairs and maintains pavement marking equipment. Troubleshoots issues with paint machine (malfunctions, pump issues, not priming, engine issue, clogged paint tips, etc.)
Assists Sign Painters during inclement weather (e.g., sign repair, cleaning, etc.).
Operates and maintains Thermoplastic Line Striping unit.
Cleans out paint machines daily.
Directs the work of lower-level personnel on assigned projects as requested/required.
Performs work in accordance with established safety policies and procedures and related federal, state and local regulations.
Performs activities and functions of related lower-level personnel as assigned or required.
Performs such other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.
