Museum Store Retail Floor Supervisor

Fallingwater, a property entrusted to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, designated as a National Historic Landmark and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is seeking a full-time Museum Store Floor Supervisor for the Fallingwater Museum Store. This position reports to the Director of Retail Operations and assists both the Director and the Assistant Manager in the day-to-day operations of the Museum Store.

 

Duties and Responsibilities (Essential or Marginal):

 

E              Assists in supervising the front-end operations of the Museum Store.

E              Works alongside Museum Store associates and staff, and ensures that all functions and tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner.

E              Prepares daily item replenishment report, and anticipates inventory needs in advance.

E              Maintains proper stock levels of inventory in the store. Weekly, informs the Director of Retail Operations (DOR) and Assistant Manager when levels are becoming low to allow expedient ordering.

E              Properly stores inventory and acts to prevent damage.

E              Completes spot inventory reports of store merchandise as assigned by DOR and Assistant Manager.

E              Assists with end of year inventory count.

E              Actively participates in meetings with the DOR and Assistant Manager to discuss store related projects and issues.

E              Provides the highest level of customer service and sets the standard for store staff.  Assists customers with purchases, as well as performs sales-transactions.

E              Flexibility with schedule and hours is required due to circumstances as they occur. Schedule may be adjusted in advance, or with little to no notice to support operational needs such as staffing shortages, evening events, etc. This may include working earlier than scheduled or staying later than scheduled, and working evenings and weekends outside of the typical Museum Store hours and own standard schedule.

E              Encourages Museum Store customers to become members of Fallingwater, and/or of the WPC.

E              Maintains the presentation of the Museum Store as directed by management team, and ensures that staff equally contributes to maintenance.  Oversees store’s appearance and cleanliness.

E              Completes safety, theft, and damage reports as they occur. Reviews and submits reports with security, and management team. Follows and enforces all safety and security policies and procedures.

E              Assists in completing daily closeout reports, item movement reports, etc. Trains new sales associate on front-of-house store operations.

E              Assists in training new staff, and provides workflow coordination, oversight and guidance for full-time, part-time and seasonal staff.

E              Completes opening and closing procedures in accordance with established WPC policy.  Reports all issues and discrepancies to the accounting managers and store managers.

E              Incorporates WPC’s constituent-focused customer service values in work habits and interaction with others.

E              Supports the Conservancy’s cost containment and fundraising efforts and needs, as applicable.

M            Transports merchandise between Museum Store and storage areas, possibly in personal vehicle.

M            Performs additional duties and responsibilities as needed, including assistance with online store inventory needs.

M            Maintains and updates artists’ bios, product information guides, etc.

M            Assists and supervises shipping / shipping quotes on in-store orders / purchases.

M            Ensures that the Museum Store van has gas, and is well maintained.

M            Ensures that van log is completed accurately, and notes any discrepancies in travel and/or time.

M            Performs additional duties and responsibilities as requested.

 

Job Requirements:

 

·         Experience with Point-of-Sale systems and cash registers are required

·         Must possess exceptional customer service and communication skills

·         Must be a team player, and have the ability to work well with others

·         Must possess working knowledge and ability to use computers, including the use MS Excel, MS Word and Point of Sale software

·         Valid driver’s license is required

·         Flexibility with schedule and hours and ability to work weekends and holidays is required

·         Ability to meet all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation

 

Qualifications:

 

·         Three years of retail sales experience.  Museum store or gift shop experience preferred, but not required

·         Supervisory experience preferred

·         Lift up to 30 lbs. consistently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally

·         Climb step stools and ladders

·         Reach overhead, stretch, and bend over to access and store stock

·         Stand for long periods of time; at least 3 hours.

 

 

Location: The position is based at Fallingwater in Mill Run, PA.

 

Position Duration: This is a full-time, seasonal opportunity which includes a comprehensive benefits package.
