The Benefits Counselor provides comprehensive personalized strategies for disabled individuals and their families to maintain federal benefits while maximizing earned income.
Responsibilities:
Benefits Counseling
- Respond and keep all communication of benefits counseling inquiries in a timely manner.
- Provide services, onsite, virtually and by telephone.
- Maintain proper documentation, which includes use of the Electronic Health Record.
- Prepare and communicate invoicing to funders when applicable for services provided.
- Prepare case notes and upload documentation to Therap for OVR and ODP funded services.
- Prepare and submit billing for services in Therap the day of each service provided.
- Communicate with Employment Services and Mainstay billing for development of cases, referrals, and purchase orders.
- Solicit services to potential clients within program that present a “need” for the service: indicators are new or existing wage earners, overpayments to SSA, or stoppage in federal benefits.
- Communicate directly to employment supervisors and their team of upcoming appointments, developments from previous sessions provided, or annual changes in SSA rules and regulations.
Miscellaneous:
- Responsible for the completion of other duties as assigned.

Hours:
37.5 hours per week.
Physical Requirements:
- Vision Acuity for the Position: Vision is Essential Vision is Non-Essential
- Environmental Conditions: 90% Inside – 10% Outside
- Workers may be Exposed to: Cold Heat Dust Mist Odors
- Physical Requirements for the Position: ability to lift 50 pounds regularly, ability to respond quickly to sounds, ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces, ability to see and respond to dangerous situations, ability to work in extreme weather, ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day
Education and Experience
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Eligibility for Act 33/34 clearances.
- Pre-employment drug screen required.
- High School Diploma or GED required with two years of related work experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Associate’s degree preferred
Required Licenses/Credentials/Certifications
- Work Incentive Practitioner Credential – Must obtain within the first year.
