The Director of Major Gifts and Campaign will play a senior role in the PSO’s Development Team by partnering with the SVP & Chief Development Officer to lead the efforts to grow the pipeline of Major Gift and Campaign support. The Orchestra is actively working on expanding its fundraising efforts as it embarks on the initial phase of a comprehensive fundraising campaign, with a primary focus on growing individual giving.   The Director of Major Gifts and Campaign will be a highly motivated individual with a fundraising background that includes demonstrated experience working on campaigns, building strategies for and engaging in strong donor relationships, securing a range of gifts, and successful team management.  This position will also manage a portfolio composed of high-level Major Donors and Prospects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead strategic partner with the SVP & Chief Development Officer, President and CEO, Campaign Steering Committee and outside consultants for the planning and execution of the comprehensive fundraising campaign.
  • With the SVP & Chief Development Officer, direct and oversee the implementation of all aspects of the campaign including but limited to the execution of goals, prospect tracking, briefings documents, proposals, gift agreements, and acknowledgement letters.
  • Lead and expand current Major Gifts moves management strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects to grow support across all levels of individual gifts. The primary focus will be on donors with the capability for giving over $5,000+ per year.
  • Lead and execute a robust discovery program in partnership with the Research and Stewardship Manager and Senior Manager of Donor Engagement.
  • In coordination with the Director of Individual Giving, work to align annual fund and major gifts growth strategies to ensure overall success in individual giving at the PSO.
  • As the leader of the PSO’s major gifts initiative, set and monitor progress toward goals for the segment and for each member of the major gifts team, including strategies for acquisition and increased giving.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 100 major gifts prospects and donors. This includes 3-5 meaningful “moves” per week with portfolio totaling at least 200 “moves” per year.
  • Attend and assist with development-related events and concerts throughout the year including evenings and weekends.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum seven years of professional fundraising and relationship management experience.
  • Track record of securing Major Gifts and working on Campaigns.
  • Understanding of various giving vehicles.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Capacity to work under pressure and collaboratively with all types of people.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, particularly weekends and evenings.
  • Must have access to transportation for travel to meetings and appointments.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Experience in a performing arts organization.
  • Familiarity and proficiency in Tessitura.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate related equipment, i.e., computer, copier, scanner.

Compensation and Location:
This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary range between $95,000 – $115,000 depending upon experience.  The PSO offers a comprehensive benefits package which includes paid holidays, paid time off, employer paid health benefits, and retirement savings options with an employer match. Heinz Hall in downtown Pittsburgh is the work location for this position. The PSO supports a flexible, hybrid work environment, which currently includes three days per week in-person work, including work on weekends and evenings during PSO and Heinz Hall concerts or events.
