The Senior Publications Manager is a skilled and experienced team leader who oversees the development, production, and distribution of high-quality printed and digital materials that supports the PSO’s brand, programs, and institutional messaging. This role is responsible for planning, editing, and overseeing the design and production of organizational print and digital publications, including concert program books, brochures, sales and promotional materials, digital signage, and other collateral. This role works across multiple departments to ensure consistency in messaging, maintain brand standards, and manage the end-to-end production process for publications, reports, and other key materials, delivered on time and on budget.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the development, design, production, and distribution of concert program books, collaborating with internal and external writers, editors, designers, and printers.
  • Oversee the creation of marketing collateral, such as brochures, newsletters, and donor materials.
  • Ensure consistency in branding, editorial standards, and visual identity across all publications.
  • Develop and enforce style guidelines and standards.
  • Collaborate with artistic, marketing, development, and education departments to compile, edit, and synthesize content to support institutional messaging.
  • With the Director of Marketing, propose, track, and manage budgets for program book and major print publications.
  • Proofread and edit all publications for clarity, accuracy, and adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Where applicable, handle copyright and permissions issues.
  • Manage external vendors, including designers, printers, and photographers, to determine project scope, meet production deadlines within budget parameters.
  • Maintain an editorial calendar and ensure the timely delivery of all publications.
  • Manage digital publishing efforts, including online versions of program books and other publications (in close collaboration with the Communications Manager).
  • Support public relations and communications initiatives with copywriting and editing as needed.
  • With marketing team members, conduct research and assess publications for impact and ROI.
  • Supervises the Senior Graphic Designer and delegates duties as appropriate.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field or relevant professional experience.
  • At least three years of experience in publishing, editorial work, or content management.
  • Familiarity with graphic design principles and experience working with designers.
  • Knowledge of printing and production processes.
  • Savvy and meticulous communications leader with a commitment to collaborative process.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Adobe Creative Suite (In Design), and project management software (Asana), as well as experience working with DAM systems.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.  Superior project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Experience in and passion for the arts or classical music is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate related equipment, i.e., computer, copier, scanner.

Compensation and Location:
This is a full-time position with an annual salary range between $60,000 – $67,000 depending upon experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes paid holidays, paid time off, employer paid health benefits, as well as retirement savings options with an employer match. Heinz Hall in downtown Pittsburgh is the work location for this position. The PSO supports a flexible, hybrid work environment, which currently includes three days per week in-person work, including work on weekends and evenings during PSO and Heinz Hall concerts or events.
